About our log furniture...K & A Log Furniture owned and operated by Keith A. Miller.  Keith has been involved in logging and forest management since 1990.  He combines the skills and knowledge that was learned in the classroom, in the woods and in the sawmill to produce a product that is quickly becoming a leader in the industry.

All trees that are utilized for log furniture are individually inspected and carefully harvested.  The logs are then trucked to the Aberdeen, SD facility where they are handpeeled and then carefully stacked in a climate controlled kiln.
The air is heated slightly and then circulated constantly while the moisture evaporates from the logs and is removed  by condensing units that operate 24/7.  During the initial dry-in period of 7-10 days, over 8 gallons of water per day is drained from the condensers.
When the logs dry to a moisture content of less than 15% they are considered stabilized and moved to the manufacturing shop.  The logs will not shrink, warp or check any more than they already have.  This strict method of quality control assures the customer that their furniture will be never loosen up or wobble.

Once the logs are placed in the racks at the construction shop, they are cut to whatever length is needed, sanded, and then used in our mortise and tenon method of construction.  Mortise and tenon building is an age old method and still is the strongest furniture joint possible.  With the recent advancement in specialty polyurethane glues, a log tenon that is glued in a mortise will never come apart unless the tenon is cut and drilled out of the mortise.

After the piece of furniture is built, it is then sprayed with lacquer, sanded, and sprayed again.  This specific lacquer is extremely stain, moisture and heat resistant which provides superior protection against the accidents of life.  Once applied, the furniture will never need to be treated again for the lifetime of the piece.  If an accident should occur , the affected area can be resanded and resprayed and will be renewed to its original state.  Our table, bar and counter tops are covered with a very thick(.125) polymer finish.  This is the same finish used at chain restaurants(Grizzley's Steakhouse, Outback Steakhouse, etc) and on log and slab bar tops across the nation.

It is a detailed process which involves several hours of mixing, pouring, levelling, and brushing, but the results are phenominal(see our showcase page).  The polymer compound is technology at its finest.  The product hardens to the touch, but remains flexible enough to withstand impacts, heat and humidity changes.

K & A Log Furniture uses only the best components in their pieces and the quality clearly shows.  We will always emphasize customer service and durable practicality.  The products offered are handmade treasures that have been fashioned with skill and experience.  We are always willing to custom design an item for a specific application, and take great care when designing interior decor.   K&A has a company slogan that sums up the effort to produce a quality product at a reasonable price:

"We make it your way!"

K & A Log Furniture also offers lighting and furniture designed with elk and deer antler.  The same attention to detail is applied to the construction of antler lamps and chandeliers.  Constructed with grade one antlers and offering all interior wiring with UL approved fixtures, quality and craftsmanship is written in every line. Comes complete with hand fitted real antler sockets that are blended with professional antler compound to the antler beam, not just set on the antler. The elk antlers that we use have been personally collected in the wilds of Wyoming.

Every spring Keith plans a trip to wilderness areas in the Rocky Mountains where he hikes for hundreds of miles in search of freshly shed antlers.  This allows for more affordable antler lighting since it removes several 'middle men'.  Our most popular chandelier, the 6 elk antler square style can be found in lodges, cabins and businesses across the U.S.  Perfectly balanced and complete with 3' chain and an antique brass ceiling plate, it is ready to be displayed as the focal point of your trophy or living room.  Destined to be a conversation piece for years, a chandelier by K & A is backed with a satisfaction guarantee and unparalleled attention to minute detail.

K&A Log Construction was formed to provide experience log builders to the Aberdeen area.  Before long, we were doing jobs in the surrounding states and now have completed jobs in 7 different states.  We offer new home construction, log home restoration, log maintenance, interior log remodelling and rock fireplaces.  Please visit the construction page to see some of our work.

Personal note from the Owner

I believe one of K&A's most important qualities is our dedication to honesty and hard work.  As a Christian, the Word of God commands us to be truthful, to work hard, and to do our best in every situation we find ourselves.  I am committed to my God, my family and my customers, in that order.  I have found that maintaining the above balance results in God's blessing, a happy family and very satisfied customers.  As long as I own the company I will attempt to please any client that I can, but I will never violate one of God's principles to do so.  This is actually a benefit to the customer, because God holds a much higher standard than they do.  Please do not hesitate to inquire about my relationship with God, I will be happy to point you towards a new life in Christ.

                                           Sincerely,

                                                          Keith A Miller

How to Know You are on Your Way to Heaven

1. You must realize that you are a sinner before a Holy God. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

2. You must realize that there is a penalty for your sin. Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death..."

3. You must realize that you cannot earn salvation. Ephesians 2:8,9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

4. You must realize that Christ fully paid the penalty of sin for us. Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 6:23 "...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

5. You must accept by faith God's provision for salvation. John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not on the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." The word 'believe' means to trust or rely upon. We must trust fully in what Christ did for us- He shed His blood, died, and rose again to pay for our sin.
